What is Glutathione?

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant produced naturally by the body. It’s made up of three amino acids: glycine, cysteine, and glutamic acid.

Key Functions:

  • Antioxidant: Glutathione neutralizes harmful free radicals, protecting cells from oxidative damage. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage cells and contribute to aging and various diseases.
  • Detoxification: Glutathione helps detoxify the body by aiding in the removal of harmful substances, including heavy metals and environmental pollutants.
  • Immune Support: Glutathione plays a crucial role in supporting a healthy immune system. It helps regulate immune cell function and protects immune cells from oxidative stress.
  • DNA Repair: Glutathione helps protect and repair DNA from damage caused by oxidative stress and other factors.
  • Brain Health: Glutathione is essential for brain health. It protects neurons from oxidative damage and supports cognitive function.
  • Skin lightening and brightening: Glutathione might interfere with the production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color. It may achieve this by inhibiting an enzyme called tyrosinase, which is crucial for melanin synthesis.

Glutathione Levels and Health:
Glutathione levels naturally decline with age, exposure to toxins, and certain health conditions. Low glutathione levels have been linked to various health problems, including:

  • Neurodegenerative diseases: Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease
  • Autoimmune diseases: Rheumatoid arthritis, lupus
  • Heart disease: Cardiovascular disease, atherosclerosis
  • Liver disease: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, cirrhosis
  • Aging: Premature aging, age-related decline in cognitive function

Boosting Glutathione Levels:
There are several ways to boost glutathione levels:

  • Diet: Consuming foods rich in glutathione precursors, such as cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, kale), garlic, onions, and avocados.
  • Supplements: Taking supplements containing glutathione precursors, such as N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) and alpha-lipoic acid.
  • Lifestyle Factors: Engaging in regular exercise, managing stress, and getting enough sleep can also help boost glutathione levels.

Glutathione Supplementation
At Renew You MedSpa, Glutathione supplementation can be achieved through either weekly intramuscular injections or monthly IV infusions.
